La Val’s  1834 Euclid Ave./Hearst Ave.; Northside.  Located on the quieter north side of the U.C. campus, this long-popular student hangout has good pizza, pastas, and brew--all at great prices.  The super-casual seating inside is enhanced with overhead TVs broadcasting sporting events, but on warm afternoons sitting at a picnic table in the courtyard beer garden is hard to beat.  Waiting time can be spent playing video games.
