Dunsmuir-Hellman Historic Estate
2960 Peralta Oaks Ct., near 106th St. exit off I-580 east. Fee.  Built in 1899, this renovated 37-room neoclassical Revival mansion is furnished with period antiques.  It features a Tiffany-style dome and 10 fireplaces, and tours are available.  Admission is usually free for visitors to picnic and stroll the 50 acres of grounds.  Of special interest are a grotto, a drained but rustically beautiful swimming pool, and a peaceful duck and swan pond.  The horror film Burnt Offerings and the James Bond thriller A View to a Kill were both filmed here.

Cultural entertainment is scheduled on Family Sundays.  Each December the grounds are transformed into a wonderland for Holidays at Dunsmuir, and the house is decked out in appropriate finery.  Other annual special events include a Spring Festival, and a Scot’s Faire in July with Highland games and more.
